Reuters • 3 days ago Lawyers for the Justice Department and AT&T Inc (T.N) said on Friday that preparations have been smooth for a trial to decide if the wireless and pay TV giant may buy movie and TV show maker Time Warner Inc (TWX.N). 'Things have been moving as they ought to,' said Justice Department lawyer Craig Conrath in a pre-trial status conference. The Justice Department sued in November to stop AT&T, the No. Wireless company, from buying Time Warner for $85 billion because of concerns that it could raise prices for rivals and pay-TV subscribers and hamper the development of online video. Neuroanatomy Neuroanatomy is the study of the anatomy and stereotyped organization of nervous systems. In contrast to animals with radial symmetry, whose nervous system consists of a distributed network of cells, animals with bilateral symmetry have segregated, defined nervous systems, and thus we can make much more precise statements about their neuroanatomy. In vertebrates, the nervous system is segregated into the internal structure of the brain and spinal cord (together called the central nervous system, or CNS) and the routes of the nerves that connect to the rest of the body (known as the peripheral nervous system, or PNS). The delineation of distinct structures and regions of the nervous system has been critical in investigating how it works. For example, much of what neuroscientists have learned comes from observing how damage or 'lesions' to specific brain areas affects behavior or other neural functions. For information about the composition of animal nervous systems, see nervous system. For information about the typical structure of the human nervous system, see human brain or peripheral nervous system. This article discusses information pertinent to the study of neuroanatomy. The first known written record of a study of the anatomy of the human brain is the ancient Egyptian document the Edwin Smith Papyrus. The next major development in neuroanatomy came from the Greek Alcmaeon, who determined that the brain and not the heart ruled the body and that the senses were dependent on the brain. After Alcmaeon’s findings, many scientists, philosophers, and physicians from around the world continued to contribute to the understanding of neuroanatomy, notably: Galen, Herophilus, Rhazes and Erasistratus. Herophilus and Erasistratus of Alexandria were perhaps the most influential Greek neuroscientists with their studies involving dissecting the brains. For several hundred years afterward, with the cultural taboo of dissection, no major progress occurred in neuroscience. However, Pope Sixtus IV effectively revitalized the study of neuroanatomy by altering the papal policy and allowing human dissection. This resulted in a boom of research in neuroanatomy by artists and scientists of the Renaissance Note that such descriptors (dorsal/ventral, rostral/caudal; medial/lateral) are relative rather than absolute (e.g., a lateral structure may be said to lie medial to something else that lies even more laterally). Commonly used terms for planes of orientation or planes of section in neuroanatomy are 'sagittal', 'transverse' or 'coronal', and 'axial' or 'horizontal'. Again in this case, the situation is different for swimming, creeping or quadrupedal (prone) animals than for Man, or other erect species, due to the changed position of the axis. A mid-sagittal plane divides the body and brain into left and right halves; sagittal sections in general are parallel to this median plane, moving along the medial-lateral dimension(see the image above). The term sagittal refers etymologically to the median suture between the right and left parietal bones of the cranium, known classically as sagittal suture, because it looks roughly like an arrow by its confluence with other sutures (sagitta; arrow in Latin). Histochemistry uses knowledge about biochemical reaction properties of the chemical constituents of the brain (including notably enzymes) to apply selective methods of reaction to visualize where they occur in the brain and any functional or pathological changes. This applies importantly to molecules related to neurotransmitter production and metabolism, but applies likewise in many other directions chemoarchitecture, or chemical neuroanatomy. Immunocytochemistry is a special case of histochemistry that uses selective antibodies against a variety of chemical epitopes of the nervous system to selectively stain particular cell types, axonal fascicles, neuropiles, glial processes or blood vessels, or specific intracytoplasmic or intranuclear proteins and other immunogenetic molecules, e.g., neurotransmitters. Immunoreacted transcription factor proteins reveal genomic readout in terms of translated protein. This immensely increases the capacity of researchers to distinguish between different cell types (such as neurons and glia) in various regions of the nervous system. The brain is small and simple in some species, such as the nematode worm, where the body plan is quite simple: a tube with a hollow gut cavity running from the mouth to the anus, and a nerve cord with an enlargement (a ganglion) for each body segment, with an especially large ganglion at the front, called the brain. The nematode Caenorhabditis elegans has been studied because of its importance in genetics. In the early 1970s, Sydney Brenner chose it as a model system for studying the way that genes control development, including neuronal development. One advantage of working with this worm is that the nervous system of the hermaphrodite contains exactly 302 neurons, always in the same places, making identical synaptic connections in every worm. Brenner's team sliced worms into thousands of ultrathin sections and photographed every section under an electron microscope, then visually matched fibers from section to section, to map out every neuron and synapse in the entire body, to give a complete connectome of the nematode.

Helen Wilton manages Rob's base camp. A month earlier in, Rob says goodbye to his pregnant wife Jan and promises he will be home for the birth. At base camp Rob receives a fax from her, informing him their baby is a girl. He wants to name her Sarah, but Jan disagrees. Worried about climber crowding, Rob persuades Scott to cooperate to reduce delays. On the summit attempt, Rob's group departs Camp IV before dawn, planning to complete the ascent and turn around by 2 pm, the latest safe time for return before nightfall. The group is delayed over an hour after discovering guide ropes are not installed on upper reaches of the climb. Beck has eyesight problems and stops. Rob tells him to return if his condition does not improve in a half-hour. Scott hurries back down to camp to help another climber, but plans to re-ascend. Rob warns him about over-exertion. Rob reaches the summit on time and is joined by other climbers including Yasuko, who jubilantly plants her Japan flag in the snow. Descending, Rob encounters Doug struggling just above the and orders him to turn back. Doug insists on continuing, saying he won't get the chance again. Rob reluctantly agrees and they reach the summit two hours later, well past safe return time. At the summit Doug is exhausted and increasingly suffering from. As Rob helps Doug descend, a blizzard strikes the mountain and Doug's oxygen bottle runs out, causing him to suffer. No extra bottles are stored on the route where Rob asked and he radios Helen to send someone up with oxygen. Doug, left alone briefly by Rob, semi-consciously unclips himself from the guide rope and walks unsteadily along the narrow path. He silently topples to his death a moment later. Scott's condition worsens. He tells fellow climbers to continue descending without him. He lies down and later dies. Returning climbers reach Beck, his vision still impaired, but they all become lost as the blizzard obliterates the trail. Three climbers go for help, leaving Beck and Yasuko behind. Guide Andy 'Harold' Harris reaches Rob with spare oxygen, but it is frozen shut. They huddle in place in the storm. While Rob sleeps, Andy hallucinates, a danger the camp doctor warned of. He strips off his outer clothing and slides off the mountainside to his death. In the morning, Rob radios Helen that Doug and Andy are gone and that his hands and feet are frozen. Helen calls Jan, hoping Rob will respond to her voice. Jan tells Rob that he must start moving. Rob tells her he is cold but comfortable and asks her to name their baby Sarah. He dies soon after. Returning climbers tell the camp that Beck and Yasuko are stranded. The weather, however, makes rescue impossible. Helen calls Beck's wife, Peach, and informs her of the situation. In the morning, Beck miraculously awakens, sees Yasuko's corpse and stumbles back to camp alone, severely frostbitten and in dire need of medical help. Peach calls the American Embassy and organizes a helicopter rescue. Nepal Army pilot Lt. Madan Khatri Chhetri successfully flies a harrowing high altitude mission to evacuate Beck. Meanwhile, one of Scott's guides, Anatoli, finds his body and moves it off the trail. Returning home, Helen has an emotional reunion with Jan, who later gives birth and names her daughter Sarah. Beck returns to his family, heavily bandaged. Closing titles reveal that he lost both hands and nose to severe frostbite and that Rob's body remains on Everest. They had to be moved around on cranes because they are very heavy,' Totino said. To photograph one scene during which expedition guide Rob Hall (Jason Clarke) is stuck on the mountain in the storm, Totino recalled: 'We tented off a portion of the set with some very heavy plastic and brought in these giant refrigerating units, half the size of a semi truck, and we cooled that part of the stage down to about 26 to 28 degrees Fahrenheit [around -3°C] and brought in real snow. The wider the light source, the more blurred the shadow becomes. If two penumbras overlap, the shadows appear to attract and merge. This is known as the. The outlines of the shadow zones can be found by tracing the rays of light emitted by the outermost regions of the extended light source. The umbra region does not receive any direct light from any part of the light source, and is the darkest. A viewer located in the umbra region cannot directly see any part of the light source. By contrast, the penumbra is illuminated by some parts of the light source, giving it an intermediate level of light intensity. A viewer located in the penumbra region will see the light source, but it is partially blocked by the object casting the shadow. If there is more than one light source, there will be several shadows, with the overlapping parts darker, and various combinations of brightnesses or even colors. The more the lighting is, the softer and more indistinct the shadow outlines become, until they disappear. The lighting of an overcast sky produces few visible shadows. The absence of diffusing atmospheric effects in the of produces shadows that are stark and sharply delineated by high-contrast boundaries between high and dark. For a person or object touching the surface where the shadow is projected (e.g. A person standing on the ground, or a pole in the ground) the shadows converge at the point of contact. A shadow shows, apart from distortion, the same image as the silhouette when looking at the object from the sun-side, hence the of the silhouette seen from the other side. Astronomy [ ]. Three moons (, and ) and their shadows parade across. The names are often used for the shadows cast by, though they are sometimes used to describe levels of darkness, such as in sunspots. An astronomical object casts human-visible shadows when its is equal or lower than -4. Currently the only astronomical objects able to produce visible shadows on Earth are the, the and, in the right conditions,. A shadow cast by the on the is a. Conversely, a shadow cast by the Moon on the Earth is a. Daytime variation [ ] The sun casts shadows which change dramatically through the day. The length of a shadow cast on the ground is proportional to the of the sun's —its angle θ relative to the horizon. Near sunrise and sunset, when θ = 0° and cot(θ) = ∞, shadows can be extremely long. If the sun passes directly overhead, then θ = 90°, cot(θ) = 0, and shadows are cast directly underneath objects. Such variations have long aided travellers during their travels, especially in barren regions such as the. Propagation speed [ ]. Phase of in casts a shadow on its own steam. Are also visible. The farther the distance from the object blocking the light to the surface of projection, the larger the silhouette (they are considered ). Also, if the object is moving, the shadow cast by the object will project an image with dimensions (length) expanding proportionally faster than the object's own rate of movement. The increase of size and movement is also true if the distance between the object of interference and the light source are closer. This, however, does not mean the shadow may move faster than light, even when projected at vast distances, such as. The loss of light, which projects the shadow, will move towards the surface of projection. Although the edge of a shadow appears to 'move' along a wall, in actuality the increase of a shadow's length is part of a new projection which propagates at the speed of light from the object of interference. Since there is no actual communication between points in a shadow (except for reflection or interference of light, at the speed of light), a shadow that projects over a surface of large distances (light years) between those distances with the shadow's edge. Color [ ] Visual artists are usually very aware of colored light emitted or reflected from several sources, which can generate complex multicolored shadows.,, and are examples of artistic techniques which make deliberate use of shadow effects. During the daytime, a shadow cast by an opaque object illuminated by sunlight has a bluish tinge. This happens because of, the same property that causes the sky to appear blue. The opaque object is able to block the light of the sun, but not the ambient light of the sky which is blue as the atmosphere molecules scatter blue light more effectively. As a result, the shadow appears bluish. Three-dimensional shadows [ ]. Fog shadow of the south tower of the A shadow occupies a three-dimensional volume of space, but this is usually not visible until it projects onto a reflective surface. A light, mist, or dust cloud can reveal the 3D presence of volumetric patterns in light and shadow. Fog shadows may look odd to viewers who are not used to seeing shadows in three dimensions. A thin fog is just dense enough to be illuminated by the light that passes through the gaps in a structure or in a tree. As a result, the path of an object's shadow through the fog becomes visible as a darkened volume. In a sense, these shadow lanes are the inverse of caused by beams of light, but caused by the shadows of solid objects. And strong beams of light are sometimes used by scenery designers, visual artists, and dancers who seek to highlight three-dimensional aspects of their work. Shadow inversions [ ] Oftentimes shadows of chain-linked fences and other such objects become inverted (light and dark areas are swapped) as they get farther from the object. A chain-link fence shadow will start with light diamonds and shadow outlines when it is touching the fence, but it will gradually blur. Eventually, if the fence is tall enough, the light pattern will go to shadow diamonds and light outlines. Photography [ ]. Shadow of a photographer In photography, which is essentially recording patterns of light, shade, and color, 'highlights' and 'shadows' are the brightest and darkest parts, respectively, of a scene or image. Must be adjusted (unless special effects are wanted) to allow the or, which has limited, to record detail in the highlights without them being washed out, and in the shadows without their becoming undifferentiated black areas. On and, taken vertically, tall buildings can be recognized as such by their long shadows (if the photographs are not taken in the tropics around noon), while these also show more of the shape of these buildings. Analogous concepts [ ] Shadow as a term is often used for any occlusion or blockage, not just those with respect to light. For example, a is a dry area, which with respect to the prevailing direction, is beyond a; the elevated terrain impedes rainclouds from entering the dry zone. An occurs when direct sound has been blocked or diverted around a given area. Cultural aspects [ ] An unattended was thought by some cultures to be similar to that of a ghost. The name for the fear of shadows is 'sciophobia' or 'sciaphobia'. Is the Hindu goddess of shadows. In, when a charge is supposedly shown 'in shadow' (the appearance is of the charge merely being outlined in a neutral tint rather than being of one or more different from the field on which it is placed), it is technnically described as 'umbrated'. Supposedly, only a limited number of specific charges can be so depicted. [ ] Gallery [ ] •. Page 1 of 1 Q: A dear friend and I share much in common—except for our faith. She grew up in a Hindu home, and I grew up in a Christian one. I've been sharing my faith with her for years, and while she listens, she still doesn't seem interested. I'm wondering if I'm doing something wrong. How can I present the gospel to her more clearly? A: I know how it feels to want Christ for someone else. In fact, everyone who shares in Christ's sufferings will share in that struggle for an unbeliever. Your close relationship with this friend is the first step to offering Christ. Through your friendship, you're not only talking about Christ, you're modeling his love—a love that pursues us through life. Here are a few things to consider as you continue to reach out to your friend. First, who's doing most of the talking when you discuss matters of faith? I know when I'm passionate about something, I can easily overwhelm others in conversation. Next time you get together with your friend, make sure you ask about her views. Her responses will help direct you. Next, besides talking, what other methods of sharing your faith have you tried? Realize God can work through many different circumstances. Are there church functions to which you can invite her? Do you attend a Bible study she could visit? How could your family embrace her and expose her to Christian life? Don't be limited by talk. Look at for advice on how to win people over without words. My Hindu Friend is a 2016 Brazilian drama film starring Willem Dafoe. It is the final film directed by Hector Babenco. Willem Dafoe to accompany My Hindu Friend at the MWFF Thursday August 18, 2016 American film star Willem Dafoe, a favourite actor of such directors as Martin Scorsese, Wes Anderson, Oliver Stone, Alan Parker, William Friedkin, Lars von Trier, Paul Schrader, Abel Ferrara and Sam Raimi, will be in Montreal to accompany the showing of My Hindu Friend, the last film by Hector Babenco ( Pixote, Kiss of the Spider Woman), who died last month in Brazil. “We are especially proud to present the last film of this great director,” declared Montreal World Film Festival president Serge Losique. “Willem Dafoe has had one of the most impressive careers in American and international cinema, over 108 roles and twice nominated for Oscars. His appearance in Montreal is a tribute to Babenco and to the art that he represented.” Appleton, Wisconsin native Dafoe joined an avant garde theatre group and toured extensively with them for two years in the US and Europe, then became a founding member of the Wooster Group. He made his film debut with a small part in Michael Ciminino’s Heaven's Gate (1980), and went on to the Oscar-nominated role of Sergeant Elias in Platoon (1986) and the controversial title role in The Last Temptation of Christ (1988). Later films include Spider-Man (1989), Tom and Viv (1994), The English Patient (1996), Speed 2 (1997), Animal Factory (2003) and Manderlay (2005). Dafoe lent his voice for the heroic Gill in 2003’s Finding Nemo and co-starred in 2007’s Mr. Bean’s Holiday. He earned his second Oscar nomination for his work in Shadow of the Vampire (2000). Among his more recent roles are those he supplied for Wes Anderson's The Grand Budapest Hotel (2014), Anton Corbjin's A Most Wanted Man (2014), Lars von Trier's Nymphomaniac: Vol. I (2013), Scott Cooper's Out of the Furnace (2013) Josh Boone's The Fault In Our Stars (2014), David Leitch and Chad Stahelski's John Wick (2014), and Chris Brinker's Bad Country (2014). Dafoe is one of the founding members of The Wooster Group, the New York based experimental theatre collective. He created and performed in all of the group's work from 1977 through 2005, both in the U.S. And internationally. Since then, he worked with Richard Foreman in Idiot Savant at The Public Theatre (NYC) and later the international productions of Robert Wilson's The Life & Death of Marina Abramovic abroad and Robert Wilson's The Old Woman with Mikhail Baryshnikov. Director Adam Fields pays homage to such sci-fi classics as Alien and The Thing with this tongue-in-cheek horror comedy about a snowbound porno film crew being stalked by an evil, body-jumping alien. A blizzard has blown into town, leaving the crew of an adult film hopelessly stranded in the middle of nowhere. To make matters worse, a menacing monster from space has just arrived, too, and it's looking for a warm place to hide out. When the alien takes possession of the film's biggest star (porn legend Ron Jeremy), the rest of the crew unites to eradicate the extraterrestrial invader before it claims any more victims. (edit: FYI, this is NOT an actual 'porn' film!) While filming an adult film at an isolated cabin in the mountains, porn star Ron Jeremy's, umm.' Member' becomes possessed by an alien force, detaches itself, and begins killing the cast and crew. The concept alone demands a viewing. Surprisingly funny, this movie spoofs both horror films and adult films. Oh yeah, but intentionally so. The movie knows exactly what it is and doesn't try to be anything more. The acting is as bad as you would expect, but it fits. The cinematography and music, however, are surprisingly well-done for such a low-budget flick. Obviously not for the easily offended, but if you like some nasty humor, this is actually kinda fun. It would probably make a good double feature with 'Orgazmo'. More Reviews Here’s a way that she needs to improve. It’s OK, in rough economic times, to make a movie about upper-middle-class people who are cushioned from the anxieties that afflict so many of us, but it seems more than a trifle obnoxious to tell a story that unfolds in a bubble of Hollywood privilege and to present it as if it were something that everyone could relate to. Alice Kinney (Witherspoon), who’d been raising her family in New York, has just separated from her husband, played by Michael Sheen as the world’s nicest cutthroat music-industry executive (the two get along like besties). To cushion the blow, she has moved back to the sprawling L.A. Bungalow where she grew up with her famous, charming and philandering filmmaker dad, John Kinney (David Netto), who is now deceased (we see him in adoring flashback), and her mother, Lilian (Candice Bergen), who has taken her in. Alice seems pretty upbeat for someone who’s in the middle of a marital meltdown, facing the prospect of raising two kids mostly by herself, and it doesn’t take long to see why. Despite her situation, she has no economic worries! She comes from Hollywood royalty, and she has returned to the moneyed bosom of her childhood home, where she attempts to launch a career as a freelance interior decorator. (This part of the film plays like “Curb Your Enthusiasm” without irony.) Then she meets a dude — but even here, it’s really all about her dad. Harry (Pico Alexander), who’s 27 but looks 23, is an aspiring director who has come to L.A. Nov 16, 2017 - 2 min - Uploaded by Universal MoviesAlice (Reese Witherspoon), a recently separated mother of two, finds her life upended when. With his two buddy collaborators: George (Jon Rudnitsky), a screenwriter; and Teddy (Nat Wolff), an aspiring movie star. The three made a short that wowed the indie world (from the clips of it, it almost looks like Meyers-Shyer based it on “Queens Boulevard,” the Sundance film that was Vincent Chase’s stab at indie integrity on “Entourage”), and now they plan to expand it into a feature. They meet slimy agents who love them, a note-giving corrupt horror producer who loves them, and other cardboard Tinseltown deplorables. But at a bar, Harry meets Alice, and the sparks fly. The best way to describe their relationship might be as mildly inappropriate but cuddly. They start dating — sort of. But more than that, Alice agrees to let Harry and his partners move into her guest house, because why not? After all, it’s not as if her kids, her divorce, and her new career are keeping her busy. When George, the screenwriter, stumbles into her dad’s old study, jammed with movie posters and film reels, he acts as if he’d just learned that her father was Orson Welles. Making commercial American comedies in the late 1970s?) And when Harry tells Alice’s mother that he himself is a filmmaker, and Bergen puts a dry spin on the line “Everybody is! We’re in L.A.,” Harry shoots her a look that says, Yes, but our film is in black-and-white! The three dudes are portrayed as millennial saints who become Alice’s pals, neighbors, chauffeurs, and babysitters, as the movie seeks to turn itself into a sitcom called “Four’s Company.” “Home Again” really does have the look and feel of an early-period Meyers-Shyer product: the overly bright lighting and soft zingers, the feel-good conceits that get piled on top of each other. But it’s also a little tone-deaf. (At one point, Michael Sheen’s character is described as “Clark Gable meets Sean Penn.”) There’s a fist fight, a reckoning, and a Moral Quandary: Is George betraying his partners by going off to write a screenplay on his own? (Uh, no.) What there isn’t much evidence of is genuine experience: of life, or of filmmaking. Hallie Meyers-Shyer is trying to be a chip off two old blocks, but next time she’d be better off working less close to home.
